Searching your conversation history works in two ways on Messenger for web.
- Enter your search topic into the search box found on the left rail of the browser. Once you’ve entered the term you’re searching for, Messenger would pull up all conversations that contain the term you’re searching for.
- Click on the "Search in Conversation" option located at the right rail of the browser and it will bring up a search box above the active conversation. This feature will only search for terms on the currently active conversation window, useful if you’re trying to search for something you’ve said to a specific person in the past.
As mentioned earlier, the usefulness of this search functionality depends on whether or not you’ve touched your conversation history on Facebook.
If you’ve never deleted a conversation before, the search function is capable of pulling up messages from years ago.
However, if you’ve recently pruned your conversations, the results from the search will likewise be limited.
