How to Use WhatsApp’s Instant Video Messages
Learn how to send short video messages on WhatsApp with the new instant video feature.
Voice messages are an easy way to talk to friends without typing or calling. Now, WhatsApp has a new feature that lets you send short video messages quickly. They call this “instant Video Messages", and here’s everything you need to know about WhatsApp instant video messaging.

This new feature works a lot like Snapchat’s Snap. You can record a short video right in your WhatsApp chat and send it to someone right away. It lets you share special moments, feelings, or messages in a way that feels more personal.
Unlike regular text, a video can show emotions and subtle details that words might miss.
How to Send a WhatsApp Instant Video Messages
Make sure you have the newest WhatsApp installed on your device. Then, to send a video message, just do this:
Open the chat where you want to send the video. Tap the audio icon at the bottom right of the screen once, and it will turn into a video icon. Now you’re ready to send your video message.
There are basically two says you can send an instant video message.
1. Use Front-Facing Camera
You can tap and hold the video icon, and record your video message using the front-facing camera. Release when done to send it.
To cancel, simply swipe to the left.
2. Use Back-Facing Camera
Or, you can also record (and send) a video using the back-facing camera.
- Tap and hold the video icon, then swipe up to lock it. This will allow you to record video messages hands-free.
- Then tap on the camera icon on the bottom right to change it to the back-facing camera.
- When done, just hit the send button, and the video message will be sent instantly.
To cancel, simply hit the trash icon on the bottom right.
Note: The sent video will play automatically on mute when opened in a chat, and tapping on the video will start the sound.
How Long of an Instant Video Message Can I Send?
WhatsApp instant video messaging is meant to allow you to send short clips instantly to convey and communicate. The maximum length for now, for an instant video message, is 1 minute.
Can I Undo Send?
You can undo send during recording, or even when the video has been recorded. But if the video message is sent and you would like to undo sending, simply tap and hold the video clip, and then select Delete (trash icon) > ‘Delete for everyone’.
